AI Character Memory: A Scene Recap Template for Better Continuity

Memory and continuity are different expectations

AI character memory is the information a system carries between messages or sessions. Continuity is what you experience when the next reply fits the scene, relationship and earlier choices. A service can retain some state and still produce an inconsistent reply. No writing prompt guarantees perfect recall.

YourBD character conversations use relationship state, but this is not a promise that every sentence or event will be remembered exactly. If a detail is essential to your story, make it explicit when it becomes relevant. A short recap can help you give that context without asking the character to reconstruct an entire history.

Keep a recap as your own writing aid. It is not an account backup, a memory settings panel or an automatic import tool. You decide what to paste into a conversation.

Correct one fact without restarting the story

When a reply changes the location or forgets a promise, point to the specific issue: “We are still in the apartment; I have not left yet.” Then give the next action. A correction tied to the scene is easier to use than “remember everything.”

Separate a writing preference from an event. “Leave my decisions to me” tells the model how to write; “I promised to come back tomorrow” is a fictional fact. Put the most relevant detail close to the message that needs it, and keep conflicting old versions out of the recap.

If a reply still conflicts with the scene, clarify again or change the direction. These are writing techniques, not tested guarantees of YourBD's recall.

What to keep between visits

• The present scene: location, who is there and what just happened.
• The relationship: what changed and what remains unresolved.
• One important commitment: a promise, boundary or decision that matters next.
• Your next move: an action or question the character can answer.

A recap becomes less useful when it turns into a transcript. Remove finished events and keep the current conflict. For a new conversation, use the chat guide or opening examples. Try the fantasy prompts for a different setting and update the recap accordingly.
